Continuous Hydroxyl Odor & Corrosion Control

Maintenance is scheduled.
Contamination is continuous.
Pyure lives in the gap.

H₂S costs U.S. wastewater utilities roughly $14 billion annually in infrastructure damage and replacement. In the hours between maintenance visits, H₂S and ammonia accumulate in headspaces and wet wells.

Pyure operates 24/7, generating hydroxyls that break down H₂S and ammonia inside wet wells, lift stations, headspaces, and HVAC systems, reducing corrosion and eliminating odor complaints.

Pyure in the Field.

Working Installations Case Studies. Municipal and industrial wastewater.

Problem

Severe H₂S corrosion in the headworks. H₂S originated from an upper vault at the property line, traveled downhill, and entered through the air handler intake, attacking screens, grit classifier, blowers, and grit slurry pumps.

Pyure solution

MVP14 hydroxyl generators installed to reduce H₂S reaching the headworks. Pyure IDU units subsequently added to HVAC air handlers supplying fresh air to chemical storage and pump rooms.

Measurable outcome

Corrosion in treated areas effectively stopped. Seven-year follow-up shows minimal new corrosion accumulation since Pyure installation. Plant operators report drastic reduction in odor and worker irritation.

Problem

High H₂S levels in deep pump-station infrastructure causing both odor complaints and corrosion concerns.

Pyure solution

Multi-unit Pyure installation with dedicated odor-control ducting. Technology distributed through an odor-control duct manifold, treating the headspace directly.

Measurable outcome

H₂S reduced to within the OSHA safety envelope. Infrastructure protection ongoing.

Problem

A new wet-well installation required proactive odor and corrosion control from day one, without the operational flexibility to retrofit later.

Pyure solution

Purified-air and hydroxyl generator integrated with an oxidizing UV source at the main-floor level, distributing treated air directly into the wet-well headspace. Submersible pumps and flushing-pipe infrastructure protected at commissioning.

Measurable outcome

Continuous H₂S and odor control from commissioning. Proves Pyure can be designed into new infrastructure, not only retrofitted.

Problem

Residential-adjacent lift station requiring odor control without the footprint or chemical handling of a traditional scrubber.

Pyure solution

Three MVP16 units plus filter plus blower, compact skid-mounted. Approximately 119" wide × 58.5" tall, inside the existing site fence line.

Measurable outcome

Effective H₂S and odor control in a footprint that biofiltration or liquid scrubbing could not have fit.

JEA skid layout drawing JEA lift station site JEA MVP16 units installed

Problem

2,000 cu ft wet well in a residential area emitting H₂S above 30 PPM. Liquid scrubbers, activated carbon, stacks, and chemical odor abatement had all been tried and failed.

Pyure solution

A single MVP14 vented directly into the wet-well headspace.

Measurable outcome

H₂S dropped below the 10 PPM OSHA recommended airborne exposure limit. Previous odor abatement systems decommissioned, reducing energy consumption and operating cost.

Problem

Two sludge holding locations (open pit and containment tank) running H₂S between 60 PPM and over 200 PPM, well above the 10 PPM OSHA limit. Offsite fugitive odors were generating community complaints and threatening the facility's operating permits.

Pyure solution

MVP14 units installed to treat air above the low-strength pit and to pump oxidants into the high-strength tank.

Measurable outcome

H₂S brought below 10 PPM OSHA limit and sustained. Community complaints dropped significantly. Facility shutdown risk eliminated.

Problem

A 52 m, six-deck vessel with black- and grey-water tank odors plus VOCs from engine rooms and galley fumes. Viruses, bacteria, and mold also present in occupied spaces.

Pyure solution

IDI controlled solutions installed alongside black-water tanks. Pyure IDIs added to HVAC systems for broader sanitization.

Measurable outcome

Odors eliminated at source. Bacterial and mold loads reduced. Crew and owner experience improved. Proof point that Pyure handles sealed-headspace wastewater in constrained environments.

Problem

Municipal solid-waste processing operation with wastewater crossover, odors and volatile organic compounds spanning both waste streams.

Pyure solution

Hydroxyl generation deployed across the processing envelope, included here as a wastewater-adjacent proof point where the same chemistry addresses both waste streams.

Measurable outcome

90% odor reduction and 25% TOC reduction, with payback under one year.

The problem is not the maintenance visit.
It is the gap between visits.

Every lift station, wet well, and headworks has a maintenance schedule. H₂S and ammonia do not. Between visits, gas builds, infrastructure corrodes, and exposure levels climb. Read below on why continuous protection outperforms episodic treatment.

Pillar 01

The gap.

Every lift station and wet well has a maintenance schedule. H₂S and ammonia have no schedule. Continuous generation, continuous corrosion, continuous odor drift, continuous OSHA exposure. The problem does not wait for the technician.

Continuous vs. scheduled
Pillar 02

The cost of episodic.

Carbon rebeds, biofilter media replacement, chemical dosing, liquid-phase peroxide injection, all episodic solutions to a continuous problem. Between events, H₂S climbs again. The chart is a saw-tooth, not a flat line.

Operating cost · downtime
Pillar 03

The regulatory burden shift.

EPA enforcement capacity is compressed. OSHA limits for H₂S have not moved. Community odor complaints now trigger action faster than federal inspections. Operators carry more of the compliance burden themselves.

Compliance · community
Pillar 04

The proof.

Seven years of corrosion documentation at Durham Region. H₂S drops from 200+ PPM to below OSHA limits within minutes at sludge operations. Live installations at Jeffery St., Newcastle, JEA, Sarnia, and City of Beacon.

Pillar 05

A better way.

No chemical storage. No biological media. No liquid scrubbing. No 4–6 hour purge cycles. Compact footprint that fits where biofilters cannot. Runs 24/7 while the plant runs, alongside existing biological and chemical scrubbing.

The Solution.
Let hydroxyls do the work.

Pyure technology generates hydroxyls that react with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air, breaking down their molecular structure and neutralizing them. The process produces powerful and stable peroxy radicals that continue circulating and replicating in the treated space, breaking down H₂S to desired levels. Utilities have used Pyure to drop H₂S from 200+ PPM to below OSHA's 10 PPM exposure limit, cut corrosion in critical infrastructure, and eliminate odor complaints where scrubbers, carbon, and chemical treatments had failed.
